For the large majority of skilled roles, augmentation is the dominant pattern. The work changes shape; it does not vanish. That is why "AI will take your job" is usually less accurate than "a person using AI may do the work you do today."
Which parts of the economy feel it first?
The impact is uneven by design. Roles heavy in predictable, digital, repetitive tasks change fastest — think routine administrative, clerical, and some entry-level analytical work. Roles that combine physical dexterity, human trust, regulation, and judgment change more slowly.
